Me\u0111utim na pojedinim modelima je dobitak jako zanemarljiv pa se trud ne isplati. Tako na primer benzinski motori bez turbo punja\u010da ne mogu da dobiju neko znatno pove\u0107anje snage pa ve\u0107ina tunera izbegava da ih radi. To zna\u010di da se postizanje boljih performansi ostvaruje isklju\u010divo promjenom u motoristi\u010dkom ra\u010dunalu koje upravlja radom motora. Me\u0111utim, termin Chip Tuning zadr\u017eao se iz perioda kada se zaista mijenjao sam \u010dip, dok se danas ovaj postupak obavlja bez zamjene \u010dipa. \u010cesto se koristi i termin remap (premapiranje ili izmjena mapa), koji je ta\u010dniji. Naime, dana\u0161nji Chip Tuning se provodi putem promjene &#8220;mapa&#8221; (parametri rada) u motoristi\u010dkom ra\u010dunalu. Motoristi\u010dko ra\u010dunalo ili ECU (Engine Control Unit) je sastavni dio svakog automobila proizvedenog poslije 2000. godine, ali se mo\u017ee na\u0107i i u mnogim modelima proizvedenim prije tog perioda. Ono ima ulogu da putem raznih senzora i aktuatora nadgleda rad motora i upravlja njime. Kod modernih turbomotora, na koje je Chip Tuning najvi\u0161e usmjeren, motoristi\u010dko ra\u010dunalo stalno kontrolira pritisak zraka, pritisak goriva, vrijeme ubrizgavanja goriva, trajanje ubrizgavanja goriva itd. Promjenom nekih od tih parametara posti\u017eu se bolje performanse. Kao \u0161to smo ve\u0107 spomenuli, danas se ne mijenja \u010dip, ve\u0107 se mijenja sadr\u017eaj motoristi\u010dkog ra\u010dunala tako da se ono o\u010dita ili preko OBDII dijagnosti\u010dkog konektora ili direktno iz ra\u010dunala. Ve\u0107a snaga i ve\u0107i obrtni moment omogu\u0107avaju bolja i elasti\u010dnija ubrzanja vozila i ranije postizanje \u017eeljene brzine. Uglavnom se intervencijom posti\u017ee i ve\u0107a maksimalna brzina.
